High time in Hampton

We are in Hampton, Virginia.  We had a nice motor sail here yesterday morning.  It's unseasonably hot here, and precious little wind.  The kids got a little hot yesterday on the sail over.  Their little faces got flushed and their voices got really whiny.  Fortunately the wind picked up slightly and we got better.

The Virginia Air & Space Museum is nearby.  So we went to another museum.

They had a traveling exhibit called "Grossology" that was perfect for my boys.  Here is Ryan (this one is for you, Kurt) learning even more about passing gas.

Evan is sliding down the large intestine slide.

We did see some airplanes.  This is an F106 like Grandpa flew in Vietnam.

Daddy, where are we going today?  Well, sons, let me show you on the charts.

I've been asked, via e-mail, for pictures of the boat in our living areas.  I'll do those on slow days.  But here's a teaser.  Here is the kids' cabin.  It's a nice V-berth set up, although it is the aft cabin.  The forward head is in the bow.  If you don't know what that means, it's not important.  Zachary is on the left side (starboard on the boat) of the picture and sleeps with his head toward you; Evan (who doesn't like covers) sleeps on the right side of the picture with his head opposite of Zachary.  The bookshelf on the right holds all their books.

We packed about 40 pounds of books, as you can see.

I started a little "schooling" with Zachary yesterday.  We had a math lesson, a reading assignment with comprehension questions, and a writing assignment.  He enjoyed it, although I need to research how to teach creative writing better.  The math is my forte and we breezed through that.  We are working on multiplication factors, but he's anxious to start working more on division.  I'm working on letter sounds and sight words with Evan.  He's already doing some pre-reading skills, so I think he'll be reading by Christmas IF he wants to.  Evan isn't as into learning as his big brother, although he appears to be equally intelligent.  I know it's too soon to tell, but he truly notices things about numbers and letters.

Today we are headed to Mobjack Bay to anchor out.  I don't know if we'll have cellular access.  Ryan has a hot spot app on his Droid and as long as we have cell service I can blog.  We'll probably anchor out a couple of nights and then head to Irvington.  We are ready to be on the hook for a couple of nights, although the heat may send us back to a marina.  We have A/C (three units to be precise!) keeping us comfortable down below, but the heat is limiting our on deck time somewhat.  The kids might get stir crazy if we're stuck inside the boat the whole time, or maybe they'll be relieved not to be so on the go for a couple of days.  Last night after I put the kids to bed I went to my cabin just to rest my head/eyes/body for a minute.  I woke up this morning in my clothes.  I can't believe I slept so hard I didn't even wake up to take my clothes off.  Yes, I think an anchorage is what we need right now.
