Yesterday we sailed out of Irvington, screaming along a beam reach (again!) with 18-20 knots of wind and a 1-2 foot chop. When we made the turn out of the river we were going straight into the wind. After beating along and watching the seas rise to 3-5 feet, and realizing that down below was not ship shape for 3-5, we turned into Mill Creek for the night. We didn't go very far, but it was no fun slogging into 3-5 ft seas and 18 knots of wind. The wind was out of the North, a product of the cold front that just passed.
Today, we are pushing early in the hopes that the wind and waves have settled a bit, like they are forcast to do. Hopefully we'll make Solomon's Island today. Our goal is to make Annapolis by Thursday so we can get a slip along the bulkhead, "Ego Alley" as it's called. The slips are first come, first serve and usually fill up for the weekend. Lew and Teresa will drive up and stay with us on the boat for the weekend.
We are crossing the mouth of the Pototmac, which is supposed to be squirrelly. It should be an interesting day!
