Anchoring Out

Yesterday we finally got to SAIL!!!  We had a great sail to Fishing Bay.  We had a beam reach with about 15-20 knots of wind.  The kids, especially Evan, were a bit concerned with the heel (tilt) of the boat, most evident with the wind coming from the beam.  They got used to it, and began to really enjoy themselves.  It was an amazing day.

All of us are settling into a rhythm now.  Everyone seems to understand their boat duties (even Evan).  Zachary is becoming very knowledgeable about the boat systems.  Each morning he and Ryan consult the charts to determine where we are going.  Zachary is quite adept at using the dividers to determine how far we have to sail.  They both seem happy and relaxed on the boat.

We were concerned that the kids would be bored at anchor because the lack of activities, so when we arrived we got in the dinghy and explored the marina here.  That lasted a boring 2 minutes, since there was nothing there.  We opted to come back to the boat, as requested by the kids.  We introduced them to the fun of swimming by the boat.

Evan had fun playing around the ladder.

It wasn't long before my jumping machine started jumping off the boat and swimming around.  The current was strong so we had both kids in the their life jackets.  Neither seemed to mind as the playfully splashed about.

This may have been our best day so far.  Today we are sailing to Irvington.  Apparently there is a wonderful marina at a very nice resort there.  There is a 9 hole golf course, so we'll golf, swim, and do whatever else there is to do there for a couple of days.  After that we are off to Solomon Island to anchor out again, I think.  Annapolis, my most anticipated stop, is in our near future!
